Flint 700 Club Crowns Champions for New 850 Team Kickoff Tournament!

The Flint 700 Club held its annual Kick Off Tournament on Sunday, September 30th, 2007 at Nightingale Lanes in Burton, Michigan. The tournament attracted 128 bowlers, a increase of 42 bowlers from last season when the tournament was held at Fenton Lanes and attracted only 80 bowlers. Bowlers were pre registered for the 4 man team with an 850 average cap.  This was a brand new tournament and was limited to the first 32 entries. The winning team for the tournament was crowned tournament champions and then the field was cut to the top 8 teams and they bowled a Baker Elimination match of 20 frames. The winning team in the Baker Roll Off format was awarded an extra $200 for winning the roll off but will not be known as the tournament champions, only the roll off champions. The winning team was Rob Robbins, Aaron Coon, Jeff Simpson and Mike Templeton. The team had a total of 2678 which included 2666 actual. Rob Robbins led the team with a 279 game in a 713 series. The win was worth $608.38 for the 4 bowlers to split. The 2nd place team was April Voorheis, Sarah Hillier, TJ Yeip and J. Nevelle Kirby with a score of 2662. Nevelle Kirby led the 2nd place team with a 757 actual series. Second place was worth $319.87. Low in the money and in 8th place, was a team score of 2529 and was worth $80 for the team. The 4th Place team of Rolonda Brown, Willie Brown, Perk Farris and Dennis Smith went on to win the Baker Roll Off Finals and the extra $200 in prize money. The prize fund for this tournament was over $1500 and was better than last year's kick-off event because of the increase in entries. Tournament Director Robert Tubbs stated that due to the overwhelming response to this new tournament, next year the tournament will have to be moved to a larger bowling alley to accommodate more teams. Tubbs said that this tournament was filled almost 2 weeks in advance, this was one of the best responses that the Flint 700 Club has ever had for a Kick Off Tournament. Amanda Basore led all women in the tournament with a 268 game in a 662 series. Hall of Famer Perk Farris led the men for actual game with a 289 game and Damonde Griggs led the actual series for men with a 789 set. There was a total of (6) 700 series bowled in this years tournament. They were Damonde Griggs (789), Nevelle Kirby (757), Rob Robbins (713) , Perk Farris (702), Marc Grosinski (721) and Justin Crosby (700). The next 700 Club Tournament is the State Jamboree which is a 4 person team tournament, that will be held in Monroe, Michigan this year on Sunday, October 28th. The State Jamboree is being hosted by the River Raisin 700 Club. Entries will be available in local bowling centers and also on this website, the cost is $80 per team.
