Flint 700 Club Crowns Champions for 850 Team Kickoff Tournament!

The Flint 700 Club held its annual Kick Off Tournament on Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at Town & Country Lanes in Flint, Michigan. The tournament attracted 148 bowlers (37 teams), a decrease of 4 bowlers from last season when the tournament was held at Colonial Lanes. Bowlers were pre registered for the 4 man team with an 850 average cap.  This was the 3rd year for this new format for the kick off tournament and this format appears to be a hit with the bowlers. The winning team for the tournament was crowned tournament champions and then the field was cut to the top 16 teams and they bowled a Baker Elimination match of 20 frames. The winning team in the Baker Roll Off format was awarded an extra $200 for winning the roll off but will not be known as the tournament champions, only the roll off champions. The winning team was Walker Thornton, John Kunder, Bill Hinderer and Todd Thornton. The team had a total of 2767 which included 2728 actual. Walker, John & Bill were all members of the winning team in this tournament last season. The win was worth $400 for the 4 bowlers to split. Walker Thornton led the team with a 730 actual series. The 2nd place team was Bill Harewood, Matt Garrett, Ray Buford and Brian Johnson with a score of 2658 which included 2643 actual. Brian Johnson led the 2nd place team with a 709 actual series. Second place was worth $340. Low in the money and in 9th place, was a team score of 2579 and was worth $80. The 10th Place team of Justin Crosby, Mike Paguio, Robert Schwerin and Heath Alfien went on to the finals of the Baker Roll Off and lost to the team of Thornton, Thornton, Kunder & Hinderer. The winning team in the Baker Roll Off earned an extra $200 and the losing team in the finals earned $100. The prize fund for this tournament was over $2000 and was higher than last year's kick-off event because of a donation from the 700 Club. Sarah Hillier led all women in the tournament with a 249 game in a 668 series. Derek Fisackerly led the men for actual series with a 742 series. Rory Kalanquin had the high actual game of the tournament with a 280 game. There was a total of (14) 700 series bowled in this years tournament.
