| The Flint 700 Club held its' 12th
annual Trio Tournament on Sunday, March 5th, 2006 at Town & Country Lanes in
Flint, Michigan. This years tournament attracted a total of 99 teams, a
decrease of 4 teams from last years tournament that was also held at Town &
Country Lanes. This years trio tournament champions were Jim & Kate McGivern
and Robin Bergquist with a winning score of 2190 with handicap. The team shot
1968 actual as Robin Bergquist led the team with a 761 actual that
included a 289 last game. Jim McGivern chipped in with a 653 actual and Kate
McGivern shot 554 actual. The team was helped out with 222 pins of handicap
based on the 635 average cap for the tournament that awarded 100% of the
teams average difference from 635. The tournament's runner up team consisted of
Paul Wills, Jim Cates and Gary Sellers. The
threesome had 2146 with handicap and was led by Gary Sellers with a 771
actual series which included a 299 game, Jim Cates supplied a 647 series to
the 2nd place effort. The third place team consisted of Matt VanEtten,
Corey Miller, and Mark Grosinski, they shot 2126 with handicap. The team had
2117 actual which was the highest actual score of the tournament. Corey Miller led the
way with a 300 game in a 809 actual series, and Mark Grosinski supplied a 700
actual to the threesome and Matt VanEtten had 608.. The 809 actual was the high series of the
tournament and propelled Miller to the 2005-2006 Jim McTaggart Bowler of the
Year Award. It was the 2nd year in a row that Miller had a 300 game in the
tournament, the 2nd year in a row that his team finished in 3rd and he
becomes the first back to back winner of the 700 Club Bowler of the Year
award. Miller was also a member of the 5th place team in the tournament when
he partnered with April Voorheis and Steve Chastain. Miller supplied a 715
actual to this team but the team was led by April Voorheis who shot 743
actual, the highest of the tournament for a woman. The high woman's game of
the tournament was a 277 game shot by Pam Ploof. The tournament's final
standings also determined who the 2005-2006 Flint 700 Club Woman Bowler of
the Year was. The team of Chris and Chrissy Brady and Ivy Taylor-Mosby
finished tied for 8th place which gave Chrissy Brady the points she needed
to win the Woman Bowler of the Year Award. The tournament
witnessed several award scores as Chris Brady shot an 805 series, Lenard
Goosby had a 300 game in a 776 series and Gary Sellers had a 299 game. Steve
Gruener led the 2nd squad scoring with a 753 actual series.
The tournament produced a total of (28) 700 series and (2) 800 series. The total prize fund was over $3000
with the top 12 teams
cashing in the tournament and the winning threesome bagging $593. The low
score for cashing was 2066 and was worth $61. The final standings, pay-out list, and individual scores can
be found in the links below. The 2005-2006
season has been completed for the Flint 700 Club but there is still one
more tournament, the National 700 Club Tournament which will be held at
Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc in the months of May and June. Check the links
on this site for more information, the final deadline to turn in entries
for the National tournament is May 13th. The National Tournament is
guaranteeing $4000 for first place in the team event, $2000 for first place
in doubles and $1000 for first place in Singles, don't miss out.
