Mike Rodriguez wins 2008 700 Club Singles Tournament

Tournament Champion!

The Flint 700 Club held it's annual singles tournament at Grand Blanc

Lanes for the 6th year in a row on Sunday, January 22nd, 2008. The 

tournament attracted a total of 207 bowlers, a decrease of 9 bowlers

from last years tournament. The tournament was won by Mike Rodriguez 

who had games of 195, 279 and 277 for 751 actual series. Mike ended up

4 pins in front of 2nd place Chris Brady who shot 747 actual and Duane Hiller

who had 746 actual. It was the 2nd straight year that Chris Brady has finished

2nd in the Singles Tournament. Justin Crosby was the leader on the 2nd squad

with a 742 actual series that helped him to a 5th place finish behind Ethan Cross

who shot 745 actual in his first 700 Club tournament.

The win by Rodriguez was worth $160 in prize money as the prize list paid

down 10 places in the 215 and up division with a low in the money score

of 716 actual by Bill Harewood. The tournament produced 22 series of 700

or higher which was 5 less than last years tournament.

Rory Kalanquin won the Greg Haus Memorial Award for the highest

actual game of the Singles Tournament with a 290 actual that helped him to a

730 actual series and a 7th place finish.

The high actual women's series of the tournament and Mary Klein

award winner went to Stephanie Tipton who shot 725 actual and finished 2nd

in the 201 to 214 division. The high women's game of the tournament was shot

by Sarah Hillier with a 279 actual. Sarah Hillier also had a 716 actual series and

finished 4th in the 201 to 214 division

The Granddaddy Award Winner this year was Al Long who shot 719 actual to finish

in 3rd place in the 201 to 214 division. Al's total swelled to 764 with handicap

because of the 15 pins per game that he received for every year in age that he was

over the age of 55.

Other winners in the tournament included Todd Thornton who won the

179 and under division with a 624 actual series which was worth $67. In the

180 to 189 division James Vernier was the winner with a 673 actual series

which was worth $82. The 180 to 189 division paid 2 places. Also

cashing was Tim McGivern with a 635 series that was worth $55.

In the 190 to 200 division Al Olah Jr. was the winner with a 717 series that

was worth $139. The 190 to 200 division paid down 8 places. Others that

cashed in this division included Robert Forshee with a 697 actual, Al Comstock

with a 676 actual, Wayne Soles with a 660 actual, Dan Ham with a 650 actual,

Mike Beckman with a 649, Jack Eisle with a 646 and Greg Kcmarik with a

645 actual.

In the 201 to 214 average division Duane Hiller won the division with a 746

actual series beating out Steve Cooper who had a 731 actual and Stephanie Tipton

with 725 and Al Long with 719. This division paid down 11 spots with low in the

money being 688 by Tom Brake.

This tournament also was the annual election for a new 700 club officer.

Herb Green won the election to become the newest member of

the 700 Club board and his duties will begin with the 700 Club National

Tournament in May.

The scores from this tournament will be sent to the national 700 club

to compare scores with other 700 clubs from across the nation for 

national awards.

The next 700 Club tournament is the Trio Tournament which will 

be held at Richfield Bowl on Sunday March 2nd, 2008, the 

entry form for this tournament can be found on this website and in local

bowling centers in the Flint area.
