Robert Kirby wins 2012 700 Club Singles Tournament with 782 Actual Series at Richfield Bowl | |

The Flint 700 Club held it's annual singles tournament at Richfield Bowl for the 4th year in a row on Sunday, January 15th, 2012. The tournament attracted a total of 170 bowlers, a increase of 17 bowlers from last years tournament. The tournament was won by Robert Kirby who had games of 257, 236 and 289 for 782 actual series. Robert ended up 14 pins in front of Tim Huizinga who shot 768 actual and won the 215 and above division. James Whitman ended up in 3rd place with a 761 actual series which was good for 2nd place in the 215 and above division. The win by Kirby was worth $100 in prize money as the prize list paid down 10 places in the 201-214 division with a low in the money score of 673 actual by Jerry Weld who will receive $26. Tim Huizinga was the big money winner of the tournament with his 1st place finish in the 215 and up division, he won $111 and this division paid down 13 spots with Jeff Wilson winning $25 for shooting 725 and finishing 13th. The tournament produced 26 series of 700 or higher which was 1 less than last years tournament. Derek Fisackerly and Gerald Smith Jr won the Greg Haus Memorial Award for the highest actual game of the Singles Tournament with 300 games. Derek finished with 740 actual to finish in 9th place in the 215 and up division and Gerald had 747 to finish in 7th place in the 215 and above division. The high actual women's series of the tournament and Mary Klein award winner went to Donna Zeller who shot 725 actual that also included a 290 game which was the high women's game of the tournament. The score was good for 2nd place in the 201 to 214 division. The Granddaddy Award Winner this year was Robert Kirby who shot 782 actual to finish in 1st place in the 201 to 214 division. Robert's total was 788 when adding in his age for his handicap (57 years old = 2 pins per game handicap). Other winners in the tournament included Paul Ballard who won the 179 and under division with a 588 actual series which was worth $41. In the 180 to 189 division Ryan Crang was the winner with a 609 actual series which was worth $60. The 180 to 189 division paid 4 places. Also cashing was Gary LeClair with a 603 series that was worth $45 and Scott Boyer with a 597 series that was worth $35, and Todd Weld with a 594 series that was worth $25. In the 190 to 200 division Dawn Troyer was the winner with a 666 series that was worth $75. The 190 to 200 division paid down 5 places. Others that cashed in this division included Ryan Whalen with a 640 actual, Johnny McClendon with a 638 actual, and Gary Buffmyer with a 625 actual and Rick Marish with a 617 series that was worth $25. In the 201 to 214 average division finishing behind Robert Kirby were: Donna Zellar finished 2nd in this division with a 725 actual series. This division paid down 10 spots with low in the money being 673 by Jerry Weld which was worth $25. This tournament also was the annual election for a new 700 club officer. _____ won the election to become the newest member of the 700 Club board and their duties will begin with the 700 Club National Tournament in June. The scores from this tournament will be sent to the national 700 club to compare scores with other 700 clubs from across the nation for national awards. The next 700 Club tournament will be the 660 Trio Tournament on Sunday, February 26th, 2012 at Grand Blanc Lanes, the entry form for this tournament can be found on this website and in local bowling centers in the Flint area. This is a new date for the trio tournament as it was moved to the end of February last year.
