700 CLUB 2006 "425" DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

 
The Flint 700 Club held their 4th annual 425 doubles tournament on Sunday, December 3rd at Nightingale Lanes in Burton, Michigan. The tournament attracted 109 doubles teams this year a decrease of 14 teams compared to last years tournament that was held at Richfield Bowl. Bowlers were allowed to switch partners after the first squad as long as the 2 bowlers average did not exceed the 425 limit. The winning doubles team this year was Bob Tubbs and Rick Gould who totaled 1468 with handicap to take home the $487 top prize. Bob Tubbs led the doubles team with a 754 actual which included a 278 game and Gould supplied a 696 actual. The team received 18 pins of handicap which it did not need to win the tournament, the 1450 actual score was the highest actual team score and enough to win. The 2nd place finishers in this years tournament were Melissa Smith & Steve Miller who totaled 1442 with handicap to win the $401 for 2nd place. Steve Miller led the doubles team with a 700 actual series, his partner Melissa supplied a 637 actual to the teams 1337 actual score, the twosome was helped out with 105 pins of handicap to finish with a 1442 total. Third place finishers were Dan Tucker and Rich MacDonald with a score of 1424. In all the tournament paid out $2862 in prize money, this was an increase of over $400 from last years tournament. Low in the money was 16th place with a score of 1352.  In all there were 17 series of 700 or better for the entire tournament. The high individual scorer of the tournament was James Homer who had the high actual series of 785 and the high actual game of 285.  John Wade was the individual scoring leader of the 2nd squad with a 763 actual series. The high women's game of the tournament was a 268 game shot by Melissa McGrath and the high women's series of the tournament was a 698 series shot by April Voorheis. The next 700 club tournament will be held on January 21st, 2007 at Grand Blanc Lanes, this is the annual singles tournament and scores from this tournament will be sent to nationals to determine a national champion.
